A Sacred Haven
for Reflection and Remembrance

Christ Church Cemetery serves as a serene resting place for our beloved members. Here, the faithfully departed rest close to the sanctuary they once cherished. We have a sacred space that is not a commercial cemetery; rather, it embodies our commitment to worship and reflection, providing a tranquil environment for solitude and remembrance among the spiritual seeker's community.

Our History

We believe truly in the phrase - "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; even so saith the Spirit, for they rest from their labors."
From the Book of Common Prayer, 469

The Origins of Our Cemetery

Established just two years after Christ Church in 1846, our cemetery was created to serve as a sacred resting place for our parish family. A dedicated committee was formed to oversee its care, ensuring it remains a place of peace and reflection for all.

Expansions and Enhancements

Over the years, the cemetery has evolved to meet the needs of our community. The first expansion in 1954 added 159 graves, followed by another in 1977. The late 20th century saw further developments, including the planting of trees, the addition of granite benches, and the naming of pathways after beloved former rectors, fostering a serene environment for remembrance.

Ongoing Care and Oversight

The Cemetery Committee, appointed by the Vestry during the annual meeting, continues to oversee the cemetery's operations. Their commitment ensures that this tranquil space remains a respectful sanctuary for reflection, honoring the memories of those who have departed from our community.

Interment Guidelines

At Christ Church Cemetery, we take great care in managing interments to ensure a respectful and dignified experience for all families. Our responsibilities include the opening and backfilling of graves, along with loaming and seeding the area afterward.

Cremains and Markers

Each lot can accommodate up to four human cremains, with a maximum of one flush marker per cremain, not exceeding 24 inches by 12 inches.

Scheduling Interments

Interments are available Monday through Saturday, excluding national holidays and Sundays. We kindly request a minimum of two business days' notice from the Cemetery Committee to schedule a burial. While interments can occur during colder months, severe winter conditions may delay services, and additional costs may apply.

Graveside Service Timing

All graveside services must conclude by 2:00 PM on weekdays and 1:00 PM on Saturdays. Late activities may incur extra charges, with the Rector holding final authority on these matters.

Disinterment

Disinterment requests are considered under special circumstances and must be submitted in writing, outlining the reason and future location of the remains. Costs will be assessed per our fee schedule.

Cemetery Committee Responsibilities

In the rare event of an error regarding an interment location, we retain the right to relocate the remains to a suitable lot. Any request for variations in monuments or markers must be approved in writing by the Cemetery Committee.
